Founded in March 2015, Rescue Foodie supports animal rescue, shelters and foster organizations in the form of donated cat and dog food. We work with multiple donors to maintain a consistent supply of food. Our goal is to empower rescues, to continue their loving work without concern for cost of food. We work with rescues, shelters and fosters of all sizes and make it easy to work with us. Since it’s inception in 2015, Rescue Foodie has delivered over 1 million pounds of dog and cat food and treats to rescues, shelters and sanctuaries in need, including 47,000lbs to Fort McMurray during the forest fire crisis in 2015.
Rescue Foodie is 100% volunteer operated. This team represents 50 years of rescue, foster and shelter experience. We understand the passion and problems of rescue groups, shelters, and community service organizations. Providing food grants helps them better serve their communities. We receive no government funding and rely solely on donations and good will to continue our work. With our current level of resources and donated product, we are able to serve many, but not all. We are always looking for partners to help expand.
In March 2017, Rescue Foodie was pleased to announce we received charitable status from the government of Canada and now have the ability to provide our valued supporters with tax receipts for monetary donations. This has enabled us to expand our efforts, specifically through rescue missions to Northern Ontario. In April 2017, Rescue Foodie organized and executed a trip to Sioux Lookout, an endeavor which, under normal circumstances, would of involved a transport trailer loaded with dog and cat food destined for Northern rescues in need. As a result of having support of additional funding, the team delivered 14,000lbs of food and returned to Toronto with 25 rescued dogs, destined for loving futures and forever families. Partnering with the Toronto, Etobicoke and Alliston Humane Societies, all 25 dogs were homed and adopted within 38 days.
As the Rescue Foodie team continues to grow its network and understand the need for our services, so too has our awareness and desire to further our efforts in Northern communities. We are focused on delivering more support to our Northern friends in the form of food and veterinary service. In September 2017, Rescue Foodie partnered with the Toronto Humane Society to open a spay, neuter and wellness clinic for the Northern community, Slate Falls, in an attempt to lower the ever growing population. The clinic was also made available to the community members at no expense. Thanks to the generous support of the Toronto Humane Society, 50 dogs and cats were treated and a few puppies returned to Toronto for adoption.
